Jeweler Shot, Robbed in Takeo Province

A jeweler was shot and injured on Sunday evening by two men during a robbery in front of his house in Takeo province’s Donkeo city, Roka Krao commune, police chief Ouch Thol said Monday.

He said the thieves took more than $130,000 total in cash and jewelry from 46-year-old Phun Phalla.

The incident occurred at about 5:20 p.m. as Mr. Phalla was returning from his jewelry stand at Takeo market, Mr. Thol said. He said two men approached Mr. Phalla and demanded his belongings.

Mr. Phalla attempted to ward off the attackers, but one of the men fired his weapon twice, striking Mr. Phalla the second time, he added.

“[The gunman] then shot again and hit the victim above the right knee,” Mr. Thol said. “It is armed robbery and the perpetrators seem not scared of the police.”

Mr. Phalla on Monday recounted Sunday’s incident and said he was fearful of future robberies.

“They held guns and ran toward me. They tried to grab my bag,” he said. “I am scared because this is the second time for me to experience this.”
