Japanese UN volunteer slain in Cambodia in 1993 remembered

A Japanese UN volunteer who was killed in Cambodia while monitoring the country’s 1993 election was remembered on Saturday, the 30th anniversary of his death.

Japan’s ambassador to Cambodia and other officials visited a cenotaph in the capital Phnom Penh to remember Nakata Atsuhito. They laid flowers and offered a silent prayer.

Nakata was gunned down on April 8, 1993, while traveling by car in the central province of Kampong Thom. He was 25 years old.
