Interior Minister Says Thanks for Enduring Wedding

The cabinet of Interior Minister Sar Kheng on Monday released a statement thanking citizens for enduring the traffic chaos caused by a lavish wedding for his son held at his central Phnom Penh mansion from Friday to Sunday.

“Thank you to all the people for understanding and forgiving Samdech Kralahorm, giving the opportunity to complete the same Khmer traditions that every parent provides for their children,” the statement said.

To the south of the mansion, Street 242 was completely blocked for the nuptials of Mr. Kheng’s son, a breach of City Hall’s regulations on street weddings.

Street 240 was choked by luxury cars and steel barricades, one lane of Norodom Boulevard was used as a parking lot, and scores of police and security forces were assigned to man the area.

“Police were involved in maintaining public order and the flow of traffic so that the middle of Street 240 and Norodom Boulevard were not blocked,” the statement went on.

“Sar Kheng would like to apologize to the public for any disturbance or impacts caused unintentionally during the ceremony.”
