Anil Wadhwa, India’s deputy foreign minister, met with Foreign Minister Hor Namhong on Wednesday and promised to honor his request for millions of dollars in loans, a spokesman said.
Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Koy Kuong said in a press conference that Mr. Namhong had also discussed the political situation in Cambodia during his meeting with Mr. Wadhwa.
“All government institutions are running smoothly and well and economic growth is on the right path,” he said Mr. Namhong had told Mr. Wadhwa.
He said that Mr. Namhong then requested money to complete an electric transmission line between Kratie and Stung Treng provinces.
“India has already helped with $30 million but it is not yet complete. The deputy prime minister [Mr. Namhong] asked for further loans of $20 million to complete this project,” Mr. Kuong said.
Mr. Namhong also requested $37 million for a “water resources development” project in Kompong Speu province, he added.
“Related to this project, the deputy minister [Mr. Wadhwa] said he will sign an agreement next week,” Mr. Kuong said.
