Illegally Cut Logs Seized In Kratie

Authorities in Kratie province recently seized 300 cubic meters of old, illegally felled logs that had been collected for sale, officials said this week.

Kratie Deputy Governor Kham Phoeun said Tuesday that the logs were confiscated late last month along the Mekong River.

Forestry Director Ty Sokhun confirmed the confiscation and said a complaint against two individuals allegedly involved in the collection of the old logs has been filed in court in Kratie.

He identified one of the individuals as Sath Soeun, a former RCAF lieutenant colonel who was stripped of his rank in October 1998 because of alleged connections in illegal rubber and timber trade in the area.

Sath Soeun has been accused for years of running illegal logging barges down the Mekong.
