Hungry Thieves Eat Security System

Two men are in Kompong Chhnang provincial police custody on charges of attempted robbery after eating their neighbor’s canine security system, officials said Monday.

While admitting to police that he did in fact dine on the doomed guard dog, suspect Khut Lon, 36, denied he was planning to rob his neighbor in Kompong Chhnang district’s Khsam commune, provincial prosecutor Mak Phanny said.

Khut Lon told police he set up an animal trap after losing several of his chickens, believing they were being hunted by civet cats. When he discovered the guard dog dead in the trap the next morning, he and fellow detainee Som Meas, 36, cooked the dog and ate it, commune police Chief Nhork Bunthy said. The men were taken into police custody Friday after cursing the dog’s owner during a fight over its death, the prosecutor said.

“Now we have detained them for education,” Mak Phanny said. He said the two will be released once they promise not to commit any more crimes.
