Hungarian Woman, 102, Dies in S’ville Rental Villa

A 102-year-old Hungarian woman was found dead Tuesday morning at her grandson’s rental house in Sihanoukville, police said.

The woman, Dr. Ember Odonne, came to Cambodia in January as a tourist and had been visiting her grandson in the seaside town since March, according to Bei commune police chief Chheav Voantha.

Mr. Voantha said Ember Odonne had simply died of old age and that no foul play was suspected in her death.

“She was not sick. She died of old age. The body had no bruises and there was no poison or medicine on her body,” he said, adding that she had apparently died in her sleep and was discovered lying in bed at around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

According to commune police officer Sao Samnang, Ember Odonne was a practicing Buddhist and was sent to a pagoda in Bei commune to be cremated at the request of her family.
