Local law and consulting firm HML, whose chairperson and founding partner is Hun Kimleng, a niece of Prime Minister Hun Sen and wife of National Police chief Neth Savoeun, has teamed up with Tokyo-based XAT Tax Corp. to form a consulting agency focused solely on taxation in Cambodia, officials confirmed Tuesday.
The agency, named HML XAT Consulting Co. Ltd., will hold an opening ceremony today at the Intercontinental Hotel in Phnom Penh. XAT Tax Corp. opened in Tokyo in January 2004 and appears to be a relatively small firm with a total of 33 workers and a branch in Bangkok, according to the company’s website.
HML’s website, which lists Ms. Kimleng as chairperson and founding partner, says taxation is one of the firm’s more than a dozen services.
HML also is a partner of Ms. Kimleng’s local investment company, Worldwide Investment Group Co. Ltd., which earlier this year struck a deal to bring the iconic U.S. restaurant chain Hard Rock Cafe to Cambodia.
Eng Monyrith, a senior legal adviser at HML, said yesterday that HML XAT will focus on taxation. “It’s for tax purposes,” he said.
