A duathlon that will be called the Samdech Techo Hun Sen Cup is to take place on Phnom Penh’s Koh Pich on June 1 in celebration of International Children’s Day, the Ministry of Information and the Cambodia Triathlon Federation announced Tuesday.
A duathlon is a three-part race that consists of a running leg, a bicycling leg and a second running leg.
“This morning we are honored that Samdech Hun Sen agreed to use his name for the event,” Information Minister Khieu Kanharith said during a press conference at the Information Ministry Tuesday.
The country’s main football tournament is also named the Samdech Techo Hun Sen Cup.
The new Hun Sen Cup’s sponsors include Coca-Cola, Tiger Beer and Herbalife, a nutritional supplement company that recently entered the Cambodian market, and which some critics have accused of being a pyramid scheme.
