Prime Minister Hun Sen will lead a delegation of senior government officials on a state visit this week to Vietnam, where they will meet with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and sign eight agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Hun Sen will be accompanied during the trip, which will last from Thursday to Saturday, by his wife, Bun Rany, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hor Namhong, Minister of Commerce Sun Chanthol and Minister of Finance Aun Porn Moniroth, the statement says.
Mr. Hun Sen and Mr. Tan Dung will preside over the signing of eight agreements and treaties to enhance bilateral cooperation in cross-border trade, the transport of goods, extradition and financial credit, along with plans to ensure cooperation between Cambodia’s ministries of education, interior and information and their equivalent ministries in Vietnam.
According to the statement, the Cambodian delegation will also meet with Nguyen Sinh Hung, chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly, Truong Tan Sang, president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Nguyen Phu Trong, secretary-general of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
“It is a common visit that we do with all states and parties equally,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Koy Kuong.
Despite calls from the opposition CNRP for foreign governments to refrain from signing new contracts with the CPP government, which it claims won power through an illegitimate election, the international community has continued to conduct business as usual in Cambodia.
Earlier this month, Mr. Hun Sen paid a visit to Tokyo, where he met with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and signed a memorandum to increase cooperation in defense.
Also earlier this month, Germany pledged $64 million in donations to Cambodia for this year and next, amounting to what the German Embassy described as a “substantial increase” in aid.
