Hooters Eyes Expansion, Cambodia Branch

Hooters, the U.S. restaurant franchise famous for its scantily-clad waitresses and chicken wings, has signed an agreement with a Thai firm to open additional branches throughout Asia, including in Cambodia.

In a press release Tuesday, Atlanta-based Hooters of America announced that it had struck a deal with Thailand’s Destination Resorts Co. Ltd. to open 30 outlets across the region.

“[I]nternational franchisee Destination Resorts Co., Ltd., has set sights on Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as Hong Kong and Macau,” it says.

Destination Resorts CEO Gary Murray says in the statement that the decision to expand followed the success of its Thai outlet, which opened last year.

“The moment the doors opened to Hooters Phuket we realized the tremendous opportunity to greatly broaden our efforts to develop the Hooters brand across Asia,” he said.

Hooters of America currently has 430 branches in 28 countries.
