PM Hun Sen takes a bet with exiled opposition rival Sam Rainsy that could force him to choose between continued political domination and economic survival.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen will step down after 34 years in power, or his main political rival for almost two decades, Sam Rainsy, will return to the country from exile to face imprisonment.

Such are the terms of an Independence Day wager the two political heavyweights agreed to over the fate of the country’s top political prisoner, Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) president Kem Sokha.
