Guards Questioned for Alleged Rape, Confinement

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Friday questioned two security guards for the alleged rape and confinement of an 11-year-old girl, before remanding them in municipal police custody, a police official said.

Nong Vichet, 40, and Khuoy Bunthoeun, 36, guards at For You phone shop in Daun Penh district’s Phsar Thmey II commune, stand accused of bringing a lost child into a rental room and raping her early last month.

“The victim escaped after one day from a small hole in the rental room in which she was confined,” said Phat Phalla, deputy bureau chief of the Phnom Penh anti-human trafficking department.

According to Mr. Phalla, both men confessed to the crime on Friday and are expected to be charged in court Saturday.

Prum Santhor, deputy Phnom Penh police chief in charge of anti-human trafficking, said police will be seeking charges of rape of a minor and illegal confinement.

A complaint from the victim’s family led to the police investigation.
