A Geneva-based relief organization said it will provide $25,000 for the victims of last month’s flooding in northeastern Cambodia.
The Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will finance the purchase of plastic sheeting for use as temporary shelter for 3,500 displaced families.
The National Committee on Disaster Management estimates seven provinces have suffered nearly $6 million in damage, and more than 20,000 families have been affected this rainy season.
OCHA is answering an appeal made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Committee on Disaster Management for food, shelter, clothing, blankets, mosquito nets and plastic sheeting.
OCHA has asked the UN Development Program to manage the relief funds and the Cambodian Red Cross and the World Food Program to purchase and distribute the sheeting.
