Groom, 2 Family Members Nabbed for Wedding Fight

Military police on Tuesday arrested a groom—along with his dad and brother—for involvement in a fight over the music being stopped at his wedding party on Sunday night in Kandal province, an officer said.

Som Tola, the provincial military police commander, said Phat Sokea, 21, the groom; Lor Phat, 56, his father; and Phat Kunthy, 38, the groom’s brother, were arrested late Monday night at their home in Kien Svay district’s Banteay Dek commune.

The fight broke out at about 11 p.m. when Lor Phat, the father of the groom, told Ly Morn, 55, who organized the music, to make the band keep playing.

When Mr. Morn refused, the groom’s father became angry.

“When he refused, he took a beer glass and threw it at the head of the victim, then the other suspects knocked over the band’s equipment until the victim’s son shot his gun into the sky,” Mr. Tola said, adding that the group then began attacking Mr. Morn’s son, Chheang Sok Meng, a National Military Police official.

He said military police were searching for more suspects as they questioned the three.
