Grenade Blast Injures Seven

Police are investigating the role of a jealous ex-husband in a grenade explosion that injured seven people Wednesday in the Meanchey district of Phnom Penh, police said Thursday.

Em Lom Hel, deputy district police chief, said that according to witnesses, the grenade exploded in Boeng Tumpun commune during a scuffle between the ex-husband and his former father-in-law.

“The witnesses reported that [the ex-husband] was divorced for a year but became jealous over a man who visited his ex-wife.

He brought a knife and a hand grenade to the house and got into a fight with his former father-in-law and his wife’s visitor,” said Em Lom Hel.

The ex-husband, former father-in-law and five neighbors were injured by shrapnel, police said.

All are expected to recover.
