Grenade Attack Kills Boy, Injures 4 in Phnom Penh

An 11-year-old boy was killed and four other people were injured in a grenade attack carried out by two men on a motorbike Thursday evening in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district, police said.

The attack occurred at 6:50 p.m. while a real estate broker and his family were having dinner in the front yard of their Khmuonh commune home, said Chuon Narin, deputy chief of Phnom Penh police.

Commune police chief Nhean Nan identified the dead boy as Sorn Dara and said he succumbed to serious injuries at Kantha Bopha hospital.

His older brother, Sorn Chara, 13, was seriously injured along with their father, Sorn Sin, 56. Mr. Nan said the two other people injured were Dorn Sok, 38, and Yam Phors, 24, but did not know their relation to the family.

“Our officials’ first conclusion is that this is a revenge case, but we could not provide more details,” Mr. Narin said, adding that police are trying to track down the two suspects.

“I think the revenge case is not hard to investigate but it just takes time.”
