Government Discusses Anti-Terrorism Decree

Officials at the Ministry of Economy and Finance on Tuesday met with representatives from the National Bank of Cambodia, the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) to discuss the draft of a sub-decree on freezing the assets of terrorist organizations and the institutions that finance them in compliance with U.N. regulations.

Ros Phearum, deputy director of the ministry’s finance and industry department, said Tuesday’s three-hour meeting was to discuss the document’s first draft.

“We just drafted the sub-decree and held the internal meeting first on the draft [in order to meet regulations]…. That’s why we’re rushing,” he said.

Mr. Phearum declined to elaborate on the content of the draft, saying that he was not authorized to speak about it to the media.
