In the latest case of violent motorbike theft in Phnom Penh, a gang of youths early on Thursday morning pursued two men leaving a nightclub on a Suzuki Nex before kicking the bike down and beating one with a belt, police said.
Phorng Aun, chief of police for Tumnop Toek commune in Chamkar Mon district, said the two friends had left the Top nightclub on the Suzuki shortly after midnight and were pursued by five other young men on two motorcycles.
“After about 15 minutes, the group of suspects drove to block the victim’s motorbike and to kick it over,” Mr. Aun said.
“After that, they took a belt to hit the victim, whose friend [the passenger] was the owner of the bike, until he had a head wound.”
The gang fled with the bike, he added. “Now we are identifying some of them and [seeing] where they are around our district, and we will arrest all of them,” he said.
