French Man Arrested for Injuring Two, Driving Drunk

A French national was arrested on Friday after crashing his truck into a motorcycle and seriously injuring two men, police said Sunday.

Rodien Gingucrevcer, 28, was allegedly driving drunk when he collided head-on with the motorcycle in Wat Phnom commune, along Norodom Boulevard.

“The French man was drunk and speeding, and caused the accident to happen,” said municipal traffic police chief Chav Hak.

“We sent the report and the suspect to court on Friday.”

The motorcyclists, Chea Varin, 27, and Kan Danit, 26, were seriously injured and are recovering in hospital, Mr. Hak added.

He said that after crashing, Mr. Gingucrevcer did not immediately stop his vehicle. But he pulled over just 20 meters down the road, where onlookers surrounded his vehicle until police arrived.

Mr. Hak said the court has charged Mr. Gingucrevcer with causing unintentional injury, and he is being detained in Prey Sar prison until trial.

Oun Sam Ath, Wat Phnom commune police chief, said the motorcyclists were also drunk at the time of the crash, but Mr. Gingucrevcer was to blame because he was speeding.
