Police have yet to identify any suspects in the attack of a 4-year-old boy who survived having his throat slit at his home in Svay Rieng province’s Bavet City on Monday.
With his parents away at work, Thorn Bunthoeun was alone when he was attacked in Chrak M’tes commune, according to commune police chief Koeut Sareth.
“The boy was badly injured because someone tried to cut through his throat,” he said.
After being attacked, the boy ran to his grandparents’ house, where he was met by relatives and taken to the provincial hospital, Mr. Sareth said.
On Monday afternoon, the boy was brought to Kantha Bopha hospital in Phnom Penh in serious condition.
Mr. Sareth said the motivation for the attack remained unclear.
“Police believe it’s not robbery because no property was missing from the house,” he said.
“The boy’s parents also said they have never had problems with anyone before.”
He said only one person—Sun Sideth, 23, the victim’s neighbor—was questioned so far.
“We questioned him because he went to visit the family that morning, but we [concluded] he’s not involved in the case.”
