Four Killed in Battambang Hit and Run; Driver Still at Large

Four people, including two children, were killed on Wednesday when a truck smashed into the SUV transporting them through Battambang province’s Sampov Loun district, police said Thursday.

The driver of the truck, which slammed head on into the SUV after crossing into oncoming traffic, fled on foot and remains at large, according to deputy district police chief Ly Rom.

“The driver of the truck fled,” he said. “We found name cards in the truck. We’re identifying the company and the driver.”

Mr. Rom said that the driver of the SUV, Leang Seyha, 30—who operated a taxi service and had 11 passengers inside the vehicle at the time of the crash—died at the scene along with two boys, aged 2 and 3. His fiancee, Chruy Chenda, 29, died later at a hospital, he said.

Seven others were injured, he added, including one person who was sent to Bangkok for treatment for a critical head injury.
