Four Arrested Smuggling Cocaine from Brazil

Two Nigerian nationals, a Filipina woman and a Cambodian woman were arrested on Thursday on suspicion of cooperating to smuggle 2.5 kg of cocaine into Cambodia, police said Sunday.

The Filipina, Macoy Mavill, 42, was apprehended at Phnom Penh International Airport after arriving at 9:05 a.m. on a flight from Brazil, via Barcelona and Singapore.

Police found the cocaine hidden among cosmetics she was carrying in her luggage, said In Song, deputy chief of the anti-drug police department at the Ministry of Interior.

“After that, we interrogated her in an effort to arrest her partners,” said Lieutenant Colonel Song. Nigerians Michael Sunshine, 31, and Emmanuel Thankgod, 31, and Cambodian Meng Sinuon, 30, were arrested at 4 p.m. the same day at the Luxury World Hotel in Daun Penh district and appeared in court Sunday for questioning.

Lt. Col. Song said that another suspect, known only as “Obe,” who is believed to be the ringleader of the cocaine smuggling operation, remains at large.
