Four men were arrested on Wednesday for gang-raping a 51-year-old woman in Kompong Cham province’s Stung Trang district last month, police said Thursday.
Farmers Chhouy Chhay, 29; Reth Map, 31; Chem Chen, 37; and Sreng Kruoch, 38, were arrested at their homes after the family of the woman, also a farmer, filed a complaint with police, according to deputy provincial police chief Heng Vuthy.
The suspects had been drinking palm wine together with the victim at a small store in O’Mlou commune at about 9 p.m. on January 21, when they grabbed the woman, who had become intoxicated, and raped her behind the shop, Mr. Vuthy said.
“The female victim said the suspects…raped her one by one when she felt drunk and could not fight back,” he said, adding that the men fled the area after the complaint was filed and were arrested upon their return this week.
“After arresting them and questioning them at the Stung Trang district police station, the suspects confessed to committing the crime,” Mr. Vuthy said.
Preng Him, deputy chief of the provincial police’s serious crimes bureau, said the men would be sent to the provincial court to be charged Friday.
