A former village chief in Kompong Cham province was shot and killed Monday evening, provincial deputy police chief Seng Sokim said.
Touv So Vann, 37, was shot once at about 8:30 pm as he was driving his motorcycle in Tbong Khmum district and died at the scene, Seng Sokim said.
Police interviewed a shop owner who said she saw a white tourist bus chasing Touv So Vann. The shop owner said she heard three shots fired and watched as Touv So Vann and his motorcycle fell to the road, police said.
One of the bullets hit Touv So Vann under the armpit, Seng Sokim said. The tourist bus immediately sped off.
Police suspect revenge as a motive for the killing, since those who fired the shots at the victim did not try to take his motorcycle.
Touv So Vann was the former CPP chief of Village 77 in Svay Teap commune, Chamkar Leu district. He was a businessman selling resin to rubber plantations, Seng Sokim said.
