More than 500 foreigners living illegally in Cambodia have now been deported to their home countries as a nationwide census continues, immigration officials said Wednesday.
General Sok Phal, director of the general department of immigration at the Interior Ministry, said that 501 people of 21 nationalities had been deported as part of the census, which began earlier this year.
Gen. Phal said that 343 Vietnamese, 57 Taiwanese and 16 North Koreans had been sent home while the remainder included foreign nationals from Nigeria, the Philippines, Russia, Thailand, France, South Korea and Afghanistan.
“We have finished the census in about 15 or 16 provinces but we do not have a total figure for the whole country yet,” he said, adding that there was no set date for the census to conclude.
