Foreign Minister to Address UN General Assembly

Foreign Minister Hor Namhong is scheduled to address the U.N. General Assembly in New York a week after the country’s outgoing human rights envoy, Surya Subedi, delivers his account of the situation in Cambodia before the Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva.

A statement released by the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday said Mr. Namhong would lead a delegation to New York from September 24 to October 1, and deliver a speech to the assembly on September 29.

It did not specify what topics Mr. Namhong would discuss, but he has previously spoken about climate change and the global financial crisis.

The minister will also take part in an informal meeting of Asean foreign ministers.

Mr. Subedi is due to speak at the HRC on September 23, where his latest report on Cambodia will be officially presented.
