Foreign Affairs Minister Urges Brunei to Buy More Rice

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hor Namhong met with Brunei’s ambassador and urged the oil-rich nation to buy more Cambodian milled rice.

It is hoped the meeting with the ambassador, Shaikh Fadilah Shaikh Ahmad, will encourage Brunei to exceed its previous rice import figure of 3,000 tons, said Koy Kuong, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman.

“Last year, 3,000 tons of milled rice was exported to Brunei and the Deputy Prime Minister [Hor Namhong] has urged Brunei to buy more rice,” he said.

During the meeting, Mr. Shaikh Ahmad said the number of tourists from Brunei visiting Cambodia has increased, but added that the nations should establish direct flights.

“His Excellency Ambassador will consider direct flights to Cambodia because Cambodia and Brunei are both members of Asean,” Mr. Kuong said.
