Cambodia’s struggles in the SEA Games football tournament continued as it dropped a 5-0 decision to Singapore Wednesday night at MPPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya, Malaysia.
Singapore’s strikers Md Fadzuhasny Jurami and Indra Sahdan Daud scored two goals apiece and defender Ratna Suffian Ishak added the fifth. Indra Sahdan Daud opened the scoring in the eighth minute when he worked his way into the penalty box and fired a grounder past Cambodian goalie Ouk Mic.
Md Fadzuhasny Jurami scored both of his goals before halftime to give Singapore a 3-0 edge. Ratna Suffian Ishak scored in the 50th minute, and 10 minutes later, Masrezwan Masturi was brought down in the penalty box by Cambodian defender Yous Bonarath. Indra Sahdan Daud converted the penalty shot.
Cambodian coach Joachim Fickert was upset with his defense.
“The usually reliable Yous Bonarath, who played the skipper’s role, had a bad game tonight,” Fickert said. “The first goal was due to his mistake and that spurred the Singaporeans. Their number 10 [Indra Sahdan Daud] was quick and deadly in the penalty box.”
Cambodia lost, 7-0, to Thailand and tied Burma, 0-0, earlier in the week. They close out play Monday against Laos.
