Police on Tuesday arrested a fifth suspect in a December murder and motorbike theft, more than a month after two other suspects in the case were killed in a shootout with police.
Phnom Penh penal police chief Eng Sorphea said that Him Sopheak, 23, was in military police custody after being arrested by Chroy Changva district police in a rental home in Chroy Changva commune.
Hours after the brazen December 11 robbery, in which a fabric dealer was killed for his Honda Dream motorbike, police stormed an open-air restaurant and shot dead two suspects in a gun battle.
Two other suspects were arrested that day.
After the shootout, Phnom Penh military police commander Rath Srieng said police believed six suspects, including the two arrested and the two shot in the firefight, were involved in similar incidents in Meanchey and Sen Sok districts.
However, Mr. Sorphea and Maing Sokluch, head of the municipal military police’s penal bureau, declined on Wednesday to say whether other suspects were still at large.
