Police said they are investigating the murder of a 15-year-old girl whose body was discovered on Sunday morning in a rice field in Pursat province’s Kandieng district.
District police chief Liv Seng Him said the body of Sao Sok was found at about 8:30 a.m by a farmer about 600 meters from the victim’s house in Sre Sdok commune.
“After our police worked with the specialist doctors to examine the dead body, we concluded it was a murder case not relating to rape,” Mr. Him said.
The police chief added that police believed the girl was murdered at about midnight. “When the farmer climbed to the top of a palm tree, he looked down and saw the victim’s dead body in a rice field nearby…and then informed the police,” he said.
Initial examinations showed the girl was hit in the jaw with a solid object and that her neck had been broken, Mr. Him said, adding that the motive remained unclear.
“We are still investigating this case, so we do not know the reasons for the murder,” he said.
