A human rights group has raised fears over the welfare of three Cambodian environmental activists who have been detained on charges of insulting the country’s king and plotting an attack against the state.
Sun Ratha, 26, Ly Chandaravuth, 22, and Yim Leanghy, 32, were arrested last Wednesday after they filmed sewage in the river near the royal palace in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh.
Sarat Ruos, from the Cambodian Centre for Human Rights (CCHR), told i that the trio, who are members of environmental group Mother Nature Cambodia, are being held in prisons in Phnom Penh that are “extremely overcrowded”.
