Father Confesses to Raping Teenage Daughter

The Prey Veng provincial police chief described a motorcycle taxi driver as being “worse than an animal” after he confessed during questioning by police Sunday to raping his 14-year-old daughter.

The father was arrested at his home in Peamro district’s Prek Khsay Khor commune on Saturday night after his wife informed police about the rape, according to district police chief Seng Ponlak.

The father told police he raped his daughter at the family’s house while his wife was out selling fried crickets on Friday morning, Mr. Ponlak said, adding the man called his daughter home from a neighbor’s house where she had been playing.

The mother reported the rape to police after speaking with her daughter on Saturday, he said.

“At about 6:30 p.m., the mother saw her daughter sitting very still and crying. After she asked her what was wrong, the daughter told her that her father had raped her,”

Mr. Ponlak said. Under questioning on Sunday, the father admitted to raping his daughter but attempted to excuse his action by explaining that he was extremely drunk, the district police chief added.

Provincial police chief Sreng Chea said he had instructed officers to act swiftly in sending the case to court.

“He is worse than an animal and I cannot tolerate it,” Brigadier General Chea said. “I have told district officials to file the case quickly and then send it to the provincial penal police bureau in order for them to take action.”

“If he was so drunk, why didn’t he jump in a fire?” he added. “He thinks saying he was drunk means he knows nothing. He knows the fire is hot and did not jump into it, and yet he turned to rape his own child.”
