Ducati, the Italian maker of top-of-the-line motorcycles, will open a Phnom Penh showroom and service center next week, the company announced on Monday.
Yeur Rorseth, a marketing executive at Ducati Cambodia, said the firm—owned by German carmaker Audi, through its Italian subsidiary Lamborghini—would focus on targeting “high-end” clientele with the new facilities, set to open on December 12.
“Our motorcycles will range in price from $14,000 to $130,000,” Mr. Rorseth said. Cristina Tsan, Ducati Cambodia’s general manager, said the company had decided to enter the Cambodian market after taking note of the large number of luxury motorcycles already found on Phnom Penh’s streets.
“We did market research and we found that in Cambodia we have a lot of Ducati superbikes,” Ms. Tsan said.
“We have a big fan base here, so we are confident we can do well.” Ducati is not the first Italian motorcycle maker to enter the Cambodian market.
Aprilia, which is owned by Piaggio, began selling motorcycles in Phnom Penh in 2014.
Aprilia sales manager That Sovann said he didn’t see Ducati as a direct competitor, noting that his firm’s most expensive model topped out at about $20,000.
“For our models, we are competitive with Suzuki and Honda,” Mr. Sovann said. “Ducati—all of its products are very expensive [compared] to Aprilia.”
