Drunken Patron Accused of Stabbing Officer With Bottle

A drunken patron broke furniture and hurled glassware at a Sihanoukville bar after he was asked to leave, then repeatedly stabbed the lone police officer who responded to the fracas in the chest and stomach with a broken wine bottle, police said.

“He was drunk and he made trouble in the bar by throwing tables and glasses in the shop,” said Chuon Narin, the police chief of Preah Sihanouk province.

Sao Samnang, a Bei commune police officer, said he went to Spider Bar at 5 a.m. on Monday after its owner, Nguyen Thylong, called him for help getting the drunken man out of her bar.

The bar, about 400 meters from the Diamond Sea Hotel and Casino in Bei village, typically closes at 1 a.m.

“The bar owner told him to go out because she had to close the bar, but he declined and started to make trouble,” Mr. Samnang said. “He threw a bottle to the ground in order to take a piece and then stabbed me after I told him to stop.”

The patron, Huang Jin Uon, 24, followed him and continued to stab him as he ran from the bar until neighbors came and pulled him away, Mr. Samnang said. He said he went to a private clinic, Bayon, after arresting Mr. Huang and received 15 stitches.

Mr. Huang, who is a Chinese national, worked at the nearby hotel and casino in its human resources department, said Nop Saroeun, chief of Sihanoukville’s judicial police section. He was provisionally charged with attempted murder and will be sent to the provincial court today for questioning.

Ms. Thylong, the bar owner, did not immediately seek compensation for the broken furniture and drinking glasses, Mr. Saroeun said.
