Driver of Lexus With Military Plates Kills Woman

A woman was killed and her daughter injured when the driver of a Lexus SUV with military license plates rear-ended their motorbike near Serei Saophoan City in Banteay Meanchey province on Wednesday, police said Thursday.

The LX570 with Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) plates crashed into the motorbike on National Road 6, instantly killing Bos Savy, 50, and injuring her daughter, Dy Savuth, 25, who had been riding pillion, according to deputy provincial traffic police chief Suon Nipo.

“The motorbike [driver] was…not being careful while driving in the middle of the road,” Mr. Nipo said.

“Then the speeding RCAF car came from behind and hit them,” he said, adding that Ms. Savuth suffered a minor head wound.

“The driver left his car at the crash site and fled, but his relatives reportedly went to the funeral ceremony to donate some money,” Mr. Nipo said.

He said the driver had not yet been identified, but denied that the crash was a hit and run.

“Legally, it wasn’t really a hit and run. He just fled and left it pending resolution,” he said.
