The driver of a four-ton truck that was transporting soil in Banteay Meanchey province is on the run after fleeing an accident in O’Chrou district on Sunday afternoon that left a husband and wife dead, police said.

The driver, who has not been identified, crashed into the left side of a motorbike carrying Seng Kun, 55, and his wife Phuong Meas, 56, who were tossed off their vehicle and died at the scene, according to deputy provincial traffic police chief Ky Makara.

“After the crash, the truck sped away from the scene,” he said, adding that the accident occurred at about 2 p.m.

“But about 1 km later, the truck driver parked his truck in an open space near the road and ran away.”

O’Chrou district traffic police chief Suth Hour said the couple was driving from Serei Saophoan City to their home in Poipet City when the crash occurred.

“We are still searching for the identity of the truck driver,” he said.

“We are having difficulty searching for the driver because the truck has no number plates.”
