Two people were killed and four were seriously injured Monday afternoon when the driver of a blue Toyota Camry lost control of the car and drove into a crowd near the Cambodiana Hotel, according to Bith Kim Hong, deputy chief of the municipal security police.
The victims were sitting on the grass near Sothearos Boulevard when the car plowed into the crowd at about 5:30 pm, police said. The driver, a woman, ran away after the accident, witnesses said.
One boy died at the scene of the accident, police said. His name was not available Monday. The second victim, 14-year-old Kim Chantha, a ninth-grade student at Tuol Tumpong High School, died at Calmette Hospital, police said.
A witness said the accident might have been caused by a blown tire.
