Dignitaries Arrive in Cambodia

The first of a stream of foreign dignitaries were scheduled to arrive in Cambodia Thursday night, in what figures to be a busy week for Asean officials meeting in Cambodia.

Several top officials from the Philippines’ Congress were scheduled to arrive for a five-day visit to discuss creating an Asean parliament based on a similar body in Europe, National Assembly president Prince Norodom Ranariddh said  Thursday.

The prince is scheduled to meet his Philippines parliamentarian counterpart today to discuss membership in an Asian peace group.

The Filipinos arrive only one day ahead of their parliamentary counterparts from Vietnam, who also are scheduled to spend five days discussing the proposed regional parliament. On Sunday, China’s national assembly members will come to Phnom Penh for three days with the same item on their agenda, government officials said.
