Deported Cambodian returns home to Lowell

The first time Thy Chea ever got to hold his 1-year-old son in his arms was at the baggage claim in Terminal A of Logan Airport.

Chea, a 50-year-old Lowell resident, returned to the United States on Wednesday night after an 18-month litigation battle with the Department of Homeland Security.

He was swarmed by family, friends, flowers, cameras and banners calling for an end to unethical deportations by the U.S. government as he got off a flight from JFK Airport in New York.
