Ninety deminers from the Mines Advisory Group Cambodia will be trained over the next few months to conduct mine awareness and bomb disposal.
The resulting teams will be the first deminers of their kind in Cambodia, said Archie Law, country manager of the group.
“We had difficulty getting children in particular to understand our [way of marking land mines] so these teams, rather than waiting for mine awareness teams to get there, will be able to do on-the-spot presentations,” Law said. “The same thing goes for unexploded ordnance.”
Seven teams will be trained using internal funds, Law said. They will also be trained in mine marking and surveying.
The NGO hopes to train all its deminers in this technique.
