The top-level government delegation, led by Prime Minister Hun Sen, that met with the leaders of Azerbaijan and Belarus over the past week, returned to Cambodia on Saturday touting a series of bilateral cooperation and trade agreements signed during the trip.
Speaking to reporters at the Phnom Penh International Airport, Kao Kim Hourn—a minister without portfolio attached to the prime minister—noted new agreements that would see Cambodian students receive scholarships to study in Azerbaijan, as well as a weekly direct flight from Belarus to Cambodia.
“Prime Minister Hun Sen thanked Azerbaijan’s leaders for providing scholarships to our Cambodian students in the fields of oil and gas,” said Mr. Kim Hourn.
“To promote the tourism sector, Cambodia agreed to a request made by Belarus to start a charter flight one time a week [from Belarus to Cambodia] as a first step,” he added.
Mr. Kim Hourn said that Mr. Hun Sen invited Azerbaijani Prime Minister Artur Rasizade and Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich to pay an official state visit to Cambodia.
Mr. Hun Sen also agreed to the formation of the Cambodia-Azerbaijan Friendship Assoiation, to be led by Deputy Prime Minister Sok An and Asaf Haiiyev, a member of Azerbaijan’s Parliament.
