Deaf Woman Stabbed to Death in Robbery

A deaf woman was stabbed to death in a robbery in Svay Rieng province on Tuesday, police said Wednesday.

Keo Sotha, deputy provincial police chief, said the 26-year-old victim, Phy Ny, was alone in her family’s home in Svay Tiep district’s Koki Som commune when intruders broke in between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. and killed her.

A total of 1.5 damlung of gold and 700,000 riel (about $175) was also stolen from the property.

Has Naly, deputy police chief of Svay Tiep district, said the victim was stabbed four times in the chest, two times in the neck and 11 times in the back and then was dragged behind the house.

Mr. Naly said police believed the perpetrators were known to the victim.

“As a policeman I have worked on many cases and in many places, but I have never seen such a case,” he said. “It is so cruel.”
