CPP to Plan Poll Strategy At Meeting

Cambodian People’s Party officials will discuss campaign strategy, but not the party’s leadership hierarchy, at a four-day central committee meeting beginning today, party officials said Monday.

The chief of the party’s secretariat said Monday that election preparations will be discussed but that the party will neither choose a new leader this week nor add members to its 20-person standing committee or the seven-member permanent committee.

“There are many documents to discuss this time,” Oum Mean said.

CPP President Chea Sim is scheduled to deliver an opening address from 8 to 8:30 am at Apsara Television headquarters, the site of the meeting.

Speeches are scheduled for today and Wednesday morning by permanent committee members Say Chhum, Chea Soth and Men Sam An, as well as other top party officials, including honorary party president Heng Samrin, Interior co-Minister Sar Kheng and Second Prime Minister Hun Sen, party officials said.

Members of the party’s 153-member central committee, district party chiefs and officials posted at ministries have been invited to the plenum, according to Oum Mean.

Other party officials, including Mam Sarin, deputy chief of CPP cabinet, said the party’s objectives for the elections scheduled for July 26 will be debated.
