Court Questions Nigerian Man Over Deadly Crash

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Monday began questioning a Nigerian man who was arrested early Sunday morning after drunkenly crashing his SUV into a tuk-tuk before swerving into a group of motorbikes, killing a young woman and injuring four men, police said.

Municipal traffic police officer Tin Rasy said Monday that the court began questioning Chris Orzo, 27, an employee of Royal Spring Investment Group, but has yet to lay any charges.

“The court did not finish their questioning yet,” Mr. Rasy said. “So, tomorrow we will send him to the court again.”

Police arrested Mr. Orzo after the accident, which killed Yi Srey Net, 24, on Street 1986 in Sen Sok district’s Phnom Penh Thmei commune at about 4 a.m. Mr. Orzo attempted to flee the scene, but about 50 people began throwing rocks at him and he retreated into his SUV before police arrived to make the arrest.

“He did not confess anything,” Mr. Rasy added.

Three commune police officers also received minor injuries after being hit by rocks while detaining Mr. Orzo.
