Company Plans Two Resorts for Sihanoukville

An Israel-based hotel and casino developer is planning two major tourist resorts in Sihanoukville that could include a water park, theme park and casino, according to the company.

In total the developments could stretch along more than a kilometer of beachfront, but Queenco Leisure International legal advisor Alan Joseph stressed Feb 8 that in both cases the beach itself will remain public.

Queenco intends to build a luxury resort on nine hectares of O’Tres Beach, Joseph said, adding that a contract for the $10 million deal had been signed but the sale is not yet final.

Queenco also purchased another 48 hectares of Sihanoukville beachfront last year, the company said on its Web site. Plans for the two separate projects could be submitted to the government by the end of this year, Joseph said.

“We are looking for something that will fit with the local environment,” he said, adding that the two locations would become high-end resorts and include entertainment facilities, spas and restaurants. While the nine-hectare tract runs approximately 300 to 400 meters along O’Tres beach, the larger property is between O’Tres and Ream beaches, said Queenco legal counsel Matthew Rendall.

The 48-hectare tract spans approximately 800 to 900 meters of beachfront, Joseph said.

He said Queenco had not yet spoken to local authorities about its plans.

Sihanoukville Municipal Governor Say Hak said he welcomed Queenco’s investment.

“We have our standard of development written in the master plan, and now we have a good chance to develop our city with Queenco,” he said. (Additional reporting by Kuch Naren)
