Commune Police Chief Kills Girlfriend, Flees

A local police chief in Takeo province allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend on Friday, then fled the scene, provincial police said Sunday.

The suspect, Sin Pov, 48, was the police chief of Kiri Chung Koh commune in Kiri Vong district. The murder took place in a house in Donkeo City rented by the victim, San Yin, 29, according to Takeo penal police chief Sem Socheat.

“We have concluded that the suspect could have been jealous of his girlfriend, leading to the murder,” he said, adding that San Yin worked at a karaoke parlor.

“We are still investigating and seeking to arrest him.” Neighbors said that Mr. Pov was seen entering the victim’s home and arguing with her on Friday night, according to Suon Phon, Donkeo City deputy police chief.

They heard a gunshot at around 8:30 p.m., and when they arrived at the house, San Yin was dead on the bed, bleeding from a gunshot wound to the right side of her torso. Mr. Phon said the crime had been committed with a police-issued K54 pistol.

“The victim was shot with one bullet under the right armpit and died instantly,” Mr. Phon said.
