A CPP commune council candidate was attacked Friday as armed suspects fired at him in his home in Towk Chour commune, Preah Neat Preah district, Bantey Meanchey province.
Ling Panlok’s assailants missed him, but his 2-year-old son was killed, said Sok Sareth, Bantey Meanchey provincial police chief.
Police are conducting an investigation, but because Ling Panlok was the listed 15th on the CPP ballot for the commune, they do not believe the attack was politically motivated, Sok Sareth said.
“It was a personal business dispute,” Sok Sareth said. Police suspect a rival family in the village, but all of the suspected family members have fled into the remote regions of surrounding forest, according to Sok Sareth.

Khor Sok, 57, the No 1 candidate in Bak Sna commune, Baray district, Kompong Thom province, died in his home after “he spent too much time speaking on Sam Rainsy Party policies” earlier that day, said Men Sithy, the Sam Rainsy Party provincial policy chief.
“He died because of his bad health, or we can say that he died from overwork,” Men Sithy said.
