Chroy Changva Man Arrested for Murdering Sister

A construction worker is expected to be charged with murder on Saturday for allegedly hacking his sister to death with a machete in Phnom Penh’s Chroy Changva district on Thursday, a police official said Friday.

Ban Vutha, 21, was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. on Thursday as he attempted to flee the scene of the crime in Koh Dach commune, according to a district police official who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the press.

According to the officer, Mr. Vutha returned to the home he shared with the 41-year-old victim, Ban Engleang, after drinking palm wine with friends and turned on his sister when she told him to leave the house.

“The suspect got angry and used a machete to attack the victim many times on her head and body until she died,” the officer said.

Mr. Vutha is being held at the district police office and will be charged with murder Saturday, he added. Chroy Changva district police chief Thong Vutha confirmed the incident but declined to provide details.
