A Chinese foreman plummeted 80 meters to his death while repairing an elevator at a cement factory in Kampot province’s Dang Tong district on Monday, a police official said Tuesday.
Deputy district police chief Men Li said that Cao Wenqiang, 41, a Chinese national and construction supervisor, had been welding part of an elevator at the top of a tall building at the Kampot Cement Co. Ltd. factory in Totong commune when he fell.
“He was wearing a safety harness but I am not sure what happened,” he said. “I think that maybe he didn’t properly attach the harness.”
Mr. Li said that officials at the factory drove Cao Wenqiang to a hospital, but that he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Deputy provincial police chief Mao Chanmeakthurith said that police were not investigating the accident, but would send a report to the court.
